On October 19, 2014, we presented a short course at the International Conference on Discrete Fracture Network Engineering, DFNE2014. Our “Fundamentals of the Hybrid Finite-Discrete Element Method (FEMDEM)” course covered the basic concepts and algorithms embedded into FEMDEM combined with modelling sessions where the participants were guided through the complete model setup for a numerical simulation of a uniaxial compression test.
